It's also often mentioned that the tunnels were built so that they would intersect the existing tracks and platforms 1 & 2, but then we get pictures like this:

https://cdn.newsapi.com.au/image/v1/635b6502eb9bcafed605166f19659fa5?width=650

https://cdn.newsapi.com.au/image/v1/97772882335e6cc7014ede79ea629974?width=1024

The disused platforms are visible to the right in the first photo and left in the second. They are fenced off, but one can clearly see trains could have been brought in from the existing City Circle to access these platforms. How much further would you have to go north or south from the disused platforms before they crossed over/under the existing tunnels? They all (tunnels) look level with one another in the photos we're shown. And are these pictures looking north through the disued southern tunnels?

And then where are these locations in the pictures below relative to the station?

https://cdn.concreteplayground.com/content/uploads/2018/10/sydney-st-james-tunnel-supplied-nsw-government-2.jpeg

https://www.smh.com.au/content/dam/images/4/8/o/4/m/image.related.wideLandscape.620x349.48o4l.png/1452172500354.jpg

Just trying to orient all of this stuff in relation to the station.Chesirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09819014636416592643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7635013142188308306.post-38291052166480050982019-07-11T21:53:26.493+10:002019-07-11T21:53:26.493+10:00Hi Phillip, is it still possible to buy a copy of ...Hi Phillip, is it still possible to buy a copy of your coastal QLD book somewhere?Melski99https://www.blogger.com/profile/04869780895786544863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7635013142188308306.post-79530040387251562052019-02-17T14:44:15.756+10:002019-02-17T14:44:15.756+10:00I know how you feel at the moment Phil. After finishing my Tumbarumba turntable, with unique features such as a hard drive bearing, and magnetic alignment (these are world firsts - never been done, or even described before), all I got was 31 visitors in 2 weeks, and no-one even left a message. And as for the internet being 26 or 27 years old, I was telneting to USA computer campuses via satellite in 1979 - may have only been text based, but we have come a long way in a short time.Rob Nesbitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17057159654871941767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7635013142188308306.post-26776101326665549292017-11-12T16:13:42.419+10:002017-11-12T16:13:42.419+10:00A good update on a beautiful little station. Also: 'a creek at the foot of a high mountain', is a descriptive rather than literal translation. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library; 1984). Also: a slip for 'Tunbible', which is a type of tree (the tunbi tree) with suffix -bil meaning 'plenty of'. (M.Sharpe) http://www.oktravel.com.au/au/nsw/tweed/dunbible/

Alternate etymology: "Dunbible Creek got its name from the following incident: An old pioneer was reading his Bible on the (creek) banks. When he had finished he was crossing the creek on a log bridge when the Bible fell into the creek. His Aboriginal companion remarked, “Done Bible, boss” and Dunbible it has been to this day.” https://www.tweeddailynews.com.au/news/place-names-attract-intrigue/650164/brunswickheadshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12720956539027147205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7635013142188308306.post-23117288194014092912016-09-24T23:07:08.286+10:002016-09-24T23:07:08.286+10:00Reading this makes me feel both nostalgic and sad....Reading this makes me feel both nostalgic and sad. I can confirm that this bridge was constructed around 1894, during the building of the Casino to Murwillumbah branch line.

This bridge, along with four (4) other similar truss bridges along the line are of wrought iron construction, a metal used in bridge construction before the wide adoption of steel.

The other truss bridges are located at Pearces Corner, Eltham, Bexhill and Lismore, all of which I have photographed in the late 1990s.

I am a bridge design engineer with a keen interest in the history of bridges in NSW.

Regards,

Ken Maxwell
Ken Maxwellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03692802115706320787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7635013142188308306.post-75217997407638704402012-01-06T12:54:30.554+10:002012-01-06T12:54:30.554+10:00I enjoyed your post - thank you.
